Hi all,
When I was surfing career options, I found that not a lot is know about what one learns in the course study of architecture. I actually went into my degree program almost blank about the happenings in the course.
What Is Architecture?
Briefly, the study course of architecture teaches students to become successful architects that design stable and functional houses, buildings, gardens, communities, cities and so on. It is the direction of ones creativity in the right direction that is usable and technically sound.

Architecture is an art and is thus subjective. There is no right or wrong in architecture. All are right in their own sense. This freedom provided allows all students to explore their creativity while designing.
The General Curriculum
There is the concept of studios in architecture, that are long 4-5 hour classes that let you work on your project with the help of mentors. The design studio is the most important. Here various levels of designing are explored in every semester, along with small interactive exercises. it teaches the skill of creating spaces through both two-dimensional and three-dimensional media.
Beside the studio, there are other theory classes like Structures, Services, History, Construction, various software and so one. The matter of all these subjects gets ultimately applied into the design studio. I will brief about each of the subjects in one of my future posts.

After Architecture
The B.Arch degree directly certifies the students to practice architecture in certain countries.
There are three basic options to pursue a career as an architect : to get a job at an architectural firm, to open your own practice, and to become a partner in an architectural firm.
Generally, there is PP or professional practice in the ending semesters of the course that allow students proper exposure to the architecture world. It also allows to establish contact to further set up ones own private practice. Yet, it is actually advisable to gain experience by working at an established firm for the beginning years.
Your B.arch degree could also become a basis for various other career options like product design, set design etc as Architecture graduates are required in various fields for their creativity. I will also talk about those in my one of my future posts.
All together, Architecture is a course for the creative and the passionate. It fulfills the need to create and provides joy in the process as architecture is not all about the outcome rather the process to achieve it.
I hope this article has all the basic information required to consider Architecture as a career option. Please comment and and also suggest new topics for me to post on.
